Stock Prices: Common Determinants in the 1920s and 1990s

Sweden's Economy
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page paper discussing the economy of Sweden. Sweden's welfare state is legendary. The government provides support to individuals in virtually every aspect of their lives, yet without venturing so far into socialism that individuals are unable to determine and follow their own paths. The cost of free university education; health care for only a nominal fee; and 15 months maternity leave at 80 percent of salary is the highest personal and corporate tax rates in the world. Though tax rates of between 50 and 60 percent would be crushing in other nations and stall economies, they have worked quite well in Sweden in the past. There is concern that the situation can continue, but of course the Swedish government is aware of the challenges before it. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

The “Public Good” as a Benefit to Tourism
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing public infrastructure’s influence on promoting tourism. In "The Wealth of Nations," Adam Smith discussed the responsibility of government to erect and maintain those structures and systems that would be too costly for individuals or groups of individuals. Smith’s point was that the structure itself may not be too costly in terms of initial outlay, but that it would be difficult or impossible for those responsible for the structure’s construction to recoup their investment. The paper uses the example of Sydney’s Opera House as a “draw” for Australian tourism and the benefits that other areas and private business receives as a result. Bibliography lists 1 source.
