China: Ideological Evolution in the Twentieth Century
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page discussion of the political, economic, and ideological evolution China has experienced in the last century. The author presents the contention that China has in many ways become more like the U.S. In doing so the country has evolved tremendously in regard to the political and economic principles which were touted earlier in its history, principles encapsulated by the great Mao paradox. The U.S., in comparison, has waivered little from the capitalistic and democratic principles upon which the country was founded. Bibliography lists 15 sources.

China: Social Networks
[ send me this paper ]
12 pages in length. The concept of social networks, otherwise known as Guanxi, "is among the most important, talked about, and studied phenomena in China today [that] lies at the heart of China's social order, its economic structure, and its changing institutional landscape" (Description). While some contend that such tremendous change is responsible for modifying the fundamental basis of Chinese heritage, other believe that understanding the underlying motivation behind the vast and far-reaching implications of such significant change is instrumental to realizing how important social networks are with regard to contemporary China. China: US Foreign Policy After WTO Accession
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing how the bureaucratic politics model has influenced US foreign policy regarding China since China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). China's need for greater economic prosperity for its people and greater international acceptance likely have been the driving forces behind its willingness to make any concessions at all to US requests. Certainly all conditions in China do not fit with the US' conception of democracy and individual freedom. The bureaucratic politics model has provided a means of reaching a common ground of understanding in which each side can maintain healthy respect for the other while making beneficial concessions that do not compromise either country's national sovereignty. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
