Michael Ondaatje's "Running In The Family": Heritage
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Characteristically reminiscent of Ondaatje's heritage, "Running in the Family" clearly represents the author's personal perception of reality as it not only exists within his own mind, but also how it resides within the confines of society. While the story is intricately intertwined with both past and present, Ondaatje
relishes the opportunity to weave a web of secrecy and illusion, not unlike the appearance of his own life. The writer discusses how the student might compare Ondaatje's story with her own. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Military Strength of 21st Century China
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report
discusses whether or not China’s modernization and its
partnership in global enterprises and market opportunities
demonstrates a true commitment to modernization and advancement
of its society and the Chinese people or to an advancement of its
military capabilities. Focus on the people of China by its
government in modern times has always been in terms of the
people’s ability, if not always willingness, to support its
military machine. There is no substantive reason to believe that
such a mindset no longer exists. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Modern Confucianism -- Adaptable Throughout All Times
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the thinking of the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius or, more accurately, Kung-fu-tzu. Throughout the novel, the mothers’ stories and memories about their heritage and past which are considered excessive initially by their daughters are eventually accepted through maturity and in doing the daughters who have acknowledged their importance not only gain a better understanding of their mothers but also of their Chinese heritage and therefore gain their full identity. The daughters are not able to gain a grasp of their full identity until they finally accept and are rewarded by their knowledge of their Chinese heritage and culture; elements causing conflict throughout the novel.
