Symbolism of "Raisin in the Sun"
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Symbols have been with us forever. It seems
that there is something in the human that responds
to symbols -it is the re-membering - the putting
of an image with an idea. For example there might
be many images that could be related to the idea
of "hope." But it is the idea of hope, that for
some reason in our busy lives that we seem to
forget. A symbol helps us reconnect with those
ideas that are ultimately important for us. That
is also true in the case of Lorraine Hansberry's
1959 New York Drama Critics Circle Award winning
play, "A Raisin in the Sun."
