Simon-Modeled Corporate Decision Making
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page paper discussing Herbert Simon's Theory of Suboptimization and drawing correlations between it and the non-profit organization. The theory recognizes that managers work under conditions of "bounded rationality." Managers must make decisions at the time the decisions are required, and they may not have available all the information with which to arrive at the optimal decision. Also, they may not be fully aware of the meaning information that they do possess, and the resulting decision is one that is less than optimal. According to Simon, it is suboptimal: "good enough," but not the best possible. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Simultaneous Distribution in the Film Industry
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page paper discussing the relatively new approach of releasing new films to all media simultaneously. Steven Soderbergh's (Sex, Lies, and Videotape, Traffic, Ocean's Eleven) Bubble was released simultaneously to theatres, DVD and pay-per-view in January 2006; theatres refused to show the film in protest. Movie theatre operators would do well to choose to address this shift of power within the industry rather than resist it, because simultaneous distribution is likely to gain in popularity for low-budget films. Traditional studios will need to provide greater incentives to theatres before choosing to make all of their products available through simultaneous distribution. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Singapore Airlines
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing alternatives for the airline to increase visibility of business travelers. These passengers frequently traveled first class in years past, but as business has become increasingly competitive all organizations have found it necessary to operate as efficiently as possible. One common cutback has been disallowance of first class travel, which has hampered not only the airlines' ability to gain high yields but has also decreased business travelers' visibility. This class is the most reliable for repeat business, and it is to the airline's advantage to actively court them. The paper recommends that Singapore Airlines create a business economy
class so that this segment will be best served and provide the airline with measurable business class data. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
