German Steel Exports & Dumping
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page research paper that examines German exports of steel products to the US, which has been a greatly contested area of trade between these two countries. The US Commerce Department has accused Germany of "dumping" steel products onto the US market. However, while many view this as an unfair trade practice, a subsequent ruling against penalties indicates the complexity of this issue. An examination of US/German steel trade shows that this area of foreign trade has been on shaky ground for some time. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Germany's Textile Industry
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing Germany's chosen focus in its
textile industry. There is no question that Germany is perfectly capable of producing its own
textiles to avoid importing as much fabric and finished goods that it does. Production costs are
prohibitively high, not only in labor but also in agricultural production of raw materials. Land is
at a premium and too costly for field crops to be profitable in Europe's most populous country.
Manufacture and export of textile machinery allows Germany to remain a world leader in the
industry in an area more suited to Germany's physical limitations, while allowing Germany to
further exercise its engineering expertise and leadership. Three figures. Bibliography lists 9
sources.

Germany’s Economic Position
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page paper discussing Germany’s recent economic history and current position in late 2004. Germany has been dispensing with structural rigidities governing labor and business operations for some time, and it is showing signs of climbing out of the bottom of the business cycle. Germany needs to continue to become more business-friendly. Lower tax rates could provide impetus for businesses to seek to grow, and relaxed labor laws could provide incentive for businesses to add jobs. The promise of employment should improve consumers’ confidence in the economy, with the result that both business and consumers contribute a greater share to growth of the German economy. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
