Wal-Mart's Growth Rolls On
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page paper assessing Wal-Mart's financial position. The world's largest retailer, it seems that Wal-Mart is very nearly growing of its own accord. It continues to post double-digit growth when such increase seems unlikely given the company's behemoth size. Such growth is unusual, but Wal-Mart continues to prove each year that sound management and aggressive in-store marketing can result in solid growth. The paper contains one chart, two tables and a SWOT analysis. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Wal-Mart's Illegal Immigrant Workers
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing the ethical aspects of Wal-Mart's use of illegal immigrants. In 2003, federal agents arrested more than 300 illegal immigrant workers as they finished their shifts cleaning 60 Wal-Mart stores in 21 states. Wal-Mart avoided any problems of implementation by simply bringing all cleaning activities back in-house. It cannot hope to control the actions of other companies, but like its own customers, it can refuse to do business with them. Whatever savings the company gained from using contractors was more than offset by its single $11 million fine. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Wal-Mart’s Expansion into Smaller Towns
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page paper discussing a case in which the town of Petoskey, Michigan is contemplating allowing Wal-Mart to build on a parcel of farmland it owns and to operate in this small town of more resort residents than permanent ones. The recommendation – written from the perspective of a Wal-Mart district manager – is to continue according to Wal-Mart’s well-established pattern, at least in gaining legal permission to build and operate a store in the Petoskey area. Wal-Mart should aspire on a corporate level to a higher moral plane, however. Certainly the company benefits from having little or no competition in the local area, but only superficially and only for the relative short term. Whatever hurts the local economy ultimately will hurt Wal-Mart as well, and it should be striving to become a good corporate neighbor rather than behaving as the bully on the block. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

WAL-MART’S HISTORY
[ send me this paper ]
When the first Wal-Mart opened in the early 1960s, the idea of discount shopping among rural America was almost unheard of, except for the five-and-dime stores. This paper examines Walton's philosophy, a little bit of history, and some glances into the future. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
