The Use of Intensive Outpatient Alcoholism Treatment for Russian Immigrants
[ send me this paper ]
This 10 page paper provides an overview of the issue of alcoholism in immigrant populations. This paper relates the fact that the problem of alcoholism is more prevalent in certain immigrant communities, including immigrants from former Soviet block countries (Russians). It can be argued that this is the result of a combination of psychological, sociological and psychosocial influences, all that influence self-perception, self-efficacy and the social acceptability of alcohol consumption as a part of the immigrant culture. Bibliography lists 15 sources.

The War On Drugs: Its Impact Upon US Foreign Policy
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The United States has long been in battle with itself in an ongoing attempt to control its rampant drug problem. Attempts to legalize the otherwise unacceptable substances have routinely been met with staunch opposition, as people continue to believe that doing so would do nothing but unleash an even worse monster upon society. However, it can be argued that America's drug problem is not rooted in the actual usage but more so in the manner that law enforcement deals with the problem. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Three Generations of Alcohol Abuse in Relation to Client Therapy
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 7 page study of multi-generation alcohol abuse in relation to a client case study. The client in this case study is affected by many stress agents which have been consistent throughout her 28 years of life. The single female client still lives at home with her family in a conservative religious household which has been dominated by her overbearing father who is a second generation alcoholic within his own history. The father smokes excessively with little consideration to others in the household. The client who is affected by second hand smoke nevertheless smokes marijuana herself and in a sense is the third generation of substance abuse. The family home remains cluttered and although they are aware of their daughter’s problems handling the home environment and her stress levels, they are not likely to change their situation.

Three Strikes Initiative: Prop 184
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. California may be leading the way in this particular area of law enforcement but at what cost? Clearly, the trade out for removing drug offenders from the streets is not equal to the exorbitant expenditure necessary to house these nonviolent, nonfelonious criminals. While other states may want to follow in California's tough footsteps, the expense to run their prison system as-is is prohibitive enough without adding minor drug offenders to the mix. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Tobacco Smoke: Health Hazards
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Cigarettes, once considered glamorous and chic, have emerged as the single most external threat to the health of the general public. The conflict over smoking has become perhaps the greatest morality play of late 20th-Century America. Whether or not one smokes makes no difference as to the potential for contracting any one of the vile diseases associated with smoking: emphysema, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a multitude of cancers, including lung, throat and tongue. To bring the point home, half million a year people die each year from cigarette-related causes, with 37,000 to 40,000 of those dying as a result of secondhand smoke. A staggering $50 billion dollars is estimated to be the amount of associated health care costs. Bibliography lists 12 sources.
