Young American Alcoholic Men Who Refuse Treatment
[ send me this paper ]
14 pages in length. Alcoholism among young American men represents a predominant population of drinkers who do not believe they have a problem and, therefore, see no need for treatment. The extent to which this occurs upon college and university campuses is both grand and far-reaching; that institutions of higher education have become the indoctrinated bar scene of the twenty-first century speaks to a tremendous social problem confounded by alcohol. By contrast, genetic alcoholism reflects a different type of drinker who, because of the comfort and escape he finds at the bottom of a glass, does not seek either cessation or treatment for his disease. Using qualitative methodology based upon symbolic interactionism, this paper seeks to illustrate how and why young American alcoholic men abstain from treatment while at the same time continue to abuse intoxicating beverages. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Young, New Drivers And Their Abilities
[ send me this paper ]
14 pages in length. Drunk drivers come in all shapes, sizes and ages, but the most predominantly dangerous group that consistently gets behind the wheel is underaged youth. According to the Center for Substance Abuse Research, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, teens pose a particular threat to road safety, because they make up over half of all alcohol-impaired drivers involved in fatal accidents, as well as being responsible for more alcohol-related fatal crashes than any other age group. Moreover, this specific group of drunk drivers routinely demonstrates the highest blood alcohol concentrations; are nearly two times as likely as any other driver to have had at least one previous accident; have had their driver's license suspended or revoked four times more; and are the most resistant to change their drinking and driving habits. Studies have shown that the earlier alcohol is introduced to the system with regard to age, the more frequency of problems that will accompany the person as he or she gets older. Also significant to alcohol-related issues is if the person consumes a consistently higher amount every month and continues to do so without cutting back. Why are young drivers so significantly outnumbered when it comes to abusing alcohol more than any other age group on the road? Bibliography lists 20 sources.
