The Effects of Bullying on School Children
[ send me this paper ]
This is an 8 page paper discussing the effects of bullying on school children. Bullying in school children has been found to have several negative short term and long term effects. In the short term, children become withdrawn, depressed and unable to handle the stress associated with bullying and school. Their absenteeism increases, their cooperation decreases and the cumulative effect is that the victim begins to do poorly in school. It has been found that the stress associated with bullying can also become dormant for many years and surface in adulthood leading to psychosocial problems. Some victims of bullying become aggressive themselves and end up disrespectful to their teachers and parents in addition to alienating themselves from their peers. Many children who become aggressive have seen power hierarchies within their own family structure and they remain aggressive to their peers, siblings and eventually their own children; in effect, becoming bullies. It is obvious that children suffer greatly from bullying but unfortunately much of the bullying which occurs is not reported as most schools rely on the victim to report the abuse which may offer additional unwanted stress to the child.
