Process And Mine Wastewater Treatment: Procedures And Recommendations
[ send me this paper ]
15 pages in length. The mining industry has long been a contributor of toxic chemicals and wastewater by virtue of its processing format; the mining of the twenty-first century continues to be responsible for myriad environmental concerns directly related to wastewater containment and disposal. The standard way to address these issues has typically included such approaches as utilizing large holding ponds to store the wastewater, however, this option has served to leach the toxins through the insufficient liners and directly into groundwater supplies. Another option is that of wastewater streams, an idea that is falling more and more behind in its ability to "meet increasingly stringent discharge limits" (GE Infrastructure Water Process Technologies, 2005). Recycling wastewater back into a useable, nontoxic commodity is the trend toward future treatment, an option that will provide for the production of high quality water, as well as the ability to recover, treat and resell valuable mining by-products. Bibliography lists 11 sources.

Promoting the Use of Free-Range Livestock
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing the increased production of free range food animals and the benefits the change can hold for both animals and humans. The paper explains free range production; reviews recent news about its benefits; and suggests ways that marketers can promote the use of animals raised more naturally, with little if any antibiotic or hormone use. Pasture-raised animals have more omega-3 fatty acids per serving, less total fat and more vitamin E, and can be more profitable for producers. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

Proposal to Clean Up Connecticut's "Filty Five"
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page paper presenting a proposal and
rationale for requiring that Connecticut's oldest operating power plants no longer be exempt from
any current standards. Technology exists now that was only dreamed of in the 1970s; the
business of pollution abatement is old enough that it is no longer a high-dollar item relative to the
benefits it provides. Newer power plants are far more efficient than are older ones, both in their
use of power-generating fuel and byproduct emissions. Industry has come to the place that power
plant emissions are far less of an issue now than in the past, but there are older installations that
were exempt from original standard-setting and have managed to remain so over the decades.
Bibliography lists 10 sources.
