SR. Callister Roy's Adaptation Model: Theory Analysis
[ send me this paper ]
9 pages in length. Understanding the evolution of Sr. Callister Roy's adaptation model and how the essential concepts of the model were developed is prerequisite to identifying the inherent differences that exist between and among all other models. Roy's model, defined as "the process and outcome whereby the thinking and feeling person uses conscious awareness and choice to create human and environmental integration" (Carey, 2003), reflects the relationship that exists between environmental integration and nursing care, which has much to do with the manner by which the nurse holds accountability for the patient's health over and above any accepted standards. Sr. Callister Roy: Nursing Theory
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. The application of nursing requires much more than merely administering drugs and treatments; rather, the overall concentration of nursing is based significantly more within the psychological components of the patient/caregiver relationship than most people realize. Such prominent individuals as Sr. Callister Roy put forth
nursing theories that effectively addressed the intrinsic four paradigms: nursing, health, person and environment. In its purest form, Roy's holistic approach seeks to treat the entire being as a single entity, rather than address it as a
singular component. It strives to achieve wellness in the most natural manner possible, while at the same time incorporating such modalities as acupuncture and homeopathy to provide a well-rounded appeal. These are the aims of holistic practitioners; with their overall approach to health being that of a self-help nature, they believe that by instilling the principles of fitness and good health, it will create a synergistic approach to life as a whole.

Stages Of Sleep
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Normal stages of sleep occur in four incremental steps, with Stage I being the hazy period of transition between sleep and consciousness called presleep or drowsiness and lasts about ten minutes until the beginning of Stage II, which continues approximately fifteen minutes. Stage III brings about a high presence of delta activity as it prepares the brain for Stage IV, which begins about one and one-half hours after Stage I. Obvious changes take place as people move into the first forty-five minutes of the final stage of sleep as their physiological composition manifests in unstable EEG readings and the presence of REM, the rapid side-to-side flitting of eyes that indicates deep sleep.
