Assessing results according to Maslow's theories can inform nursing evaluation of the patient's progress in self care, and be used to encourage the patient to take on even greater responsibility over time. It has been known for some time that patients gain psychological benefit from having an active role in their own health care. The Patient Care Delivery Model at the Massachusetts General Hospital

A 5 page paper discussing Harvard case study 9-699-154. Massachusetts General Hospital attempted to implement a new approach to delivering patient care, but found that not all factors had been identified at the outset. The hospital did everything “right,” such as bringing in outside consultants and attempting to identify factors that would affect the success of implementation of the Patient Care Delivery Model (PCDM), but without gaining the results it anticipated. The paper concludes that the case as reported is not a total failure, for patient satisfaction did remain high throughout and the hospital’s administration was able to learn much from the mistakes made. MGH would be well advised to delay any further implementation of the PCDM until it thoroughly studies actual results and more accurately accounts for the true costs of realities observed. The Pender Health Promotion Model

The Pender model holds that people are willing and able to take the steps necessary to improve their health standing, to seek increasing levels of wellness rather than only existing without the presence of illness. It is reasonable to assume that greater progress in a shorter period of time provides additional incentive to retain new behaviors and to continue practicing them until they become ingrained.
