Socioeconomic factors that include "high population densities, crowded living conditions, poor-quality housing and poor living standards" (Woodward et al, 2001, pp. 1-20) serve to perpetuate unhealthy behavioral aspects, which in turn are exacerbated by the environmental impact of climate changes, a vicious cycle that precludes many New Zealanders from escaping poor health.
