The Progressive Era
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. A great number of the people who lived in the United States during the 1920's were the same people who had lived there during the Progressive Era, a period of change that took place from approximately 1900 to1920. Yet some historians have claimed that Progressive ideals were lost and that those same Americans demonstrated a self-centered intolerance during the 1920's. This paper will address the question of why some historians have such a negative and pessimistic opinion of people who lived during that time, as well as discuss the differences between America in the 1920's as compared to the Progressive Era. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

The Progressive Era and American Values
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page overview of the factors influencing the formation and change of values. This paper observes that here have been certain shifts in values in U.S. society over the country’s brief two-hundred year history. In turn, there have been numerous factors to which each of these shifts can be attributed. Our values have changed both as a reflection of the president and other major leaders of the time and as a reflection of the social situation of the time. The American values of hard work, profit maximization, and protection of the rights of the American worker have roots which go well into our history, to the Progressive Era in particular. This paper asserts that there has been an unfortunate degradation of the values which resulted in the movement over time, however. While the value of profit maximization is still in place in American society, the values of hard work and protection of the rights of American worker are slowly falling by the wayside.
