The African-American Experience During the Days of Booker T. Washington
[ send me this paper ]
This
6 page report discusses the events taking place during Booker T. Washington’s
(1856-1915) lifetime. He was not alone in his efforts to change the lives of former slaves
and their children and grandchildren. In fact, he was only one reformer in many and one
which others often disagreed. While Washington seems to have almost single-handedly
changed the perceptions of many (at least those whose vision was not clouded by racial
prejudice) 19th century white and black Americans regarding the potential of “Negroes,”
he was not alone in his efforts to bring education, justice, and opportunity for other
African Americans. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

The American Dilemma
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. The American Dilemma represented one of myriad times in United States history where the concept of slavery was ripe for change. Thomas Jefferson, a man who openly abhorred the very practice of human servitude against one's will, openly vocalized his contempt by claiming the institution as a crime, an abomination, and a wasteful, dangerous, and immoral system of labor. Indeed, he held the power to make significant changes to the existing social system between blacks and whites, and he was bound and determined to do so. That is, however, until he realized the potential backlash that could rightly occur if emancipation was to take place without the corresponding protection of colonization. What ultimately resided at the crux of the American Dilemma was Jefferson's vacillating indecisiveness when it came time to act upon his previous condemnation; as such, the American Civil War is when abolition truly began to take shape. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
