Hitler Unopposed?
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) Numerous factors seem to have existed that
make it appear that Hitler moved almost unopposed
towards his major goal of the domination of
Europe. Although it is a simplification, we could
almost say that everyone was too busy, or too
involved with what they were doing, to worry, to
see, or even pay attention to the events of Europe.
In this discussion we will look at some of those
events and analyze how they all influenced the
final outcome of Hilter's rise to power.

Hogan/The Marshall Plan
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page book review. Formally entitled the European Recovery Program, but popularly known as The Marshall Plan, this program of aid was formulated by the United States in order help Europe recover economic prosperity after World War II. In his text The Marshall Plan: America, Britain and the Reconstruction of Western Europe 1947-1962, historian Michael Hogan offers a richly detailed study and analysis of what the plan involved, how it was implemented and also how it met the vast majority of its goals, which supports Hogan's major theme, which is that the Marshall Plan was the most successful peacetime foreign policy initiative carried out by the US in the twentieth century. Hollywood Blacklisting: The Hollywood Ten
[ send me this paper ]
15 pages in length. Communism and American democracy do not make comfortable bedfellows. This enlightening discovery served as the basis for Senator Joseph McCarthy's quest to exile all Communist association from the United States in the 1950s. Central to this exacting extermination were the Hollywood Ten, a handful of movie makers who were suspected of having Communist ties. The sheer terror that permeated through Hollywood during this blacklist period was born of the ignorance of McCarthyism and the uncertainty of one's eventual status. However, as much fervor as there was in support of the blacklisted film makers, there was a subgroup of opposition that contended each of the ten men were nothing more than disloyal Stalin supporters. Bibliography lists 15 sources.

Honigsberg/Crossing Border Street
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page book review that examines Peter Honigsberg's memoir Crossing Border Street (2000), which relates what it was like to be one of the young, idealistic northern whites who came south in response to the cause of black civil rights in the 1960s. The point of this text is to convey not only the idealism that Honigsberg felt as a young man, but also the complexity of the situation and how the experience both changed him and directed his life. In so doing, he relates an insightful and gripping narrative that demonstrates how the process of involvement in political activism can change the individual, as well as aiding the issue. No additional sources cited.
