Mystic Urge to Explore
[ send me this paper ]
An 11 page research paper that discusses exploration, mysticism and religion. In the Age of Exploration, explorers of various nationalities braved the dangers of vast oceans in tiny ships in order to find glory and gold. However, in addition to these worldly concerns, these explorers also felt themselves to be on a religious mission to spread their particular version of Christianity. As this suggests, there has always been a mystical, religious aspect to exploration that connects discovering facts about the unknown with coming closer to universal truths. Examination of some historical examples of exploration and some speculative ones shows that even when mystical ideation is not specifically associated with religion as such, a mystical quality is nevertheless associated with acts of exploration and their possible consequences. However, examination of these sources also shows that the nature of this relationship between exploration and religion changed over the course of the centuries as society changed. It went from a concept of exploration being firmly routed in religious ideology to one that has become progressively more mystical in its orientation. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

New Generations of the 1870s-1890s, 1920s-1940s and 1950s-1960s
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the new generations of the 1870s-1890s, 1920s-1940s and 1950s-1960s and how each challenged the generation before. The generations of the 1870s-1890s, 1920s-1940s and 1950s-1960s each challenged the established rules of the generations before them. The 1870s saw the end of the Civil War and the establishment of African American education and landownership. Unfortunately because of the increasing black presence, the 1890s brought about a wave of legislated racism. The 1920s and 1930s generation prospered in its initial recovery from World War I before the Great Depression. In its day, the 1920s saw the development of new fashions, lifestyles and careers for both men and women. After World War II however, the start of the cold war and fear of nuclear war, a new generation in the 1950s and 1960s turned their back on the conservatism which was promoted on the television and the Civil Rights and Women’s Movement were born.
Bibliography includes 5 sources.
