A 10 page research paper/essay that discusses and explicates several Holocaust poems from William Heyen's texts, Erika and Shoah Train. William Heyen/Shoah Train
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page research paper/essay that examines Heyen's latest volume of Holocaust poetry. Heyen's poetry has frequently focused on the Holocaust. He published his collection The Swastika Poems in 1977, which was subsequently revised and expanded into Erika (1984). His latest volume of Holocaust poetry is Shoah Train, which encompasses more than 70 poems written over the last dozen years (Shoah Train, 2003). A great deal of Holocaust literature has addressed the question of how such evil could have taken place. The Holocaust poetry in Shoah Train does not offer the reader definitive answers, but it does reveal multiple perspectives on human nature and its seemingly engrained propensity toward violence and evil. Heyen's poetry not only illuminates the nature of the evil that was the Holocaust, but also relates this experience to today's world and the continuing legacy left by this world-altering example of what human beings are capable of perpetuating on each other. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

William Poundstone's Prisoner's Dilemma
[ send me this paper ]
William Poundstone's Prisoner's Dilemma is a philosophical biography of the mathemetician, John von Neumann. Owing to his history and circumstances, Von Neumann was a staunch believer in the Nazi threat and, later, the threat of communism. He believed that if using the hydrogen bomb would stop the spread of those particular political regimes, then it should have been used yesterday. He was a member of the team developing the bomb at Los Alamos Labs in New Mexico and the 'think tank' at the RAND Corporation. This 5 page paper examines the life of John von Neumann, his development of game theory, and the application of game theory to the Cold War. No additional sources are listed.

World War II: The Influence of Perspective
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing current
wartime accounts from Russia, Japan and Poland. Much of the recollections originating in these
three nations can be traced forward to current beliefs and attitudes. These current tensions likely
would be very different today had history been different, but it also appears that they also could
hold a different face if memories of the war could be different as well. Bibliography lists 5
sources.
