Summary of F.A. Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom” (1944)
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 10 page paper of a chapter by chapter summary of Friedrich August von Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom” (1944). Friedrich August von Hayek (1899-1992) wrote “The Road to Serfdom” in 1944 and has since been cited as one of the major economic and capitalism sources in regards to the free market. Hayek’s basic argument is that “central planning is by its very nature inefficient: only a free market allows for the exchange of information that can provide efficiency”. While many critics do not argue with Hayek’s views on the free market, his book gained a certain amount of controversy when it was released in 1944 during the Nazi era because he basically made the argument that eventually any centralized government will eventually lead to totalitarianism hence the title of the book, “The Road to Serfdom”. Introduction based on material by Judd (2003).

Sweden and Germany
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page research paper that compares these two countries. Germany and Sweden share many similarities. They are both democracies, have extensive social welfare systems, and promote humanistic concerns, such as women's rights, within their laws and social conventions (Folster). However, despite these similarities, there are also definitive differences between Sweden and German and one of the most profound of these differences can be found in the way in which the issue of gender equality has been handled and is still reflected in their current systems. This examination of Sweden and Germany explores their similarities and differences and then focuses on the issue of gender equality, as a defining issue that differentiates them and which can be traced to their different histories and paths of development. Sweden's Economy
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page paper discussing the economy of Sweden. Sweden's welfare state is legendary. The government provides support to individuals in virtually every aspect of their lives, yet without venturing so far into socialism that individuals are unable to determine and follow their own paths. The cost of free university education; health care for only a nominal fee; and 15 months maternity leave at 80 percent of salary is the highest personal and corporate tax rates in the world. Though tax rates of between 50 and 60 percent would be crushing in other nations and stall economies, they have worked quite well in Sweden in the past. There is concern that the situation can continue, but of course the Swedish government is aware of the challenges before it. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Sweden: Political Classification
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The writer discusses how Sweden's government, Riksdagen, is a unicameral system that has been in existence since 1970, drawing its political power from being a parliamentary democratic monarchy with three hundred forty-nine members where the Head of State is the king, but he has no authority in the governing of the state. Parliament is responsible for passing laws, as well as controlling State incomes and expenditures. Unlike an autocratic dictatorship, Sweden's government cannot arbitrarily impose new taxes; rather, the existing laws, in conjunction with Parliament, have the combined necessitated for taxation with the working relationship between government and Riksdagen serving as the people's protective force against undemocratic increases.
