Through their fortitude and cooperation the men manage to survive a harrowing thirty hours at sea only to capsize once again within one half mile of Florida's shoreline. Three manage to swim to shore but one perishes. Provides a brief overview of Crane's own short life and discusses his view that nature is neither vicious nor plotting, only indifferent.
