Blanche and Stanley’s Power Struggle in Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire”
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper with a 1 page outline discussing the power struggle between Blanche and Stanley in Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire”. In Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” a vicious power struggle occurs between Stanley and Blanche. Ultimately they are battling over the love and approval of Stella although in the end neither seems to consider Stella’s feelings in the climax of the play which would seem to indicate that it was the gaining of the power over each other which was more vital than Stella’s approval. Williams was said to have included sexual, social and racial tensions throughout his plays to reflect aspects he had witnessed or experienced in life. Blanche and Stanley’s power struggle is reflective of those perceived in the post World War II era when neither side could be considered entirely good or entirely bad and the assets over which they fought, in this case Stella, were no better off at the end of the struggle than at the beginning. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Bless Me, Ultima & The Odyssey
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that contrasts the spiritual journey toward maturation portrayed in Homer’s Odyssey and Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me Ultima. Examination of both narratives demonstrates that they each concern stories of spiritual maturation. While the Homer’s protagonist is a grown man, a Greek hero of the Trojan War, Odysseus, and Anaya’s novel is the story of a six-year-old boy, they nevertheless bear this similarity. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Bless Me, Ultima/Good vs. Evil
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page essay that examines the theme of good versus evil in Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. The writer argues that the protagonist, a young Hispanic boy, has to learn to deal with the cultural dichotomies inherent in his environment. The interesting perspective that Anaya brings to this conflict is the ambiguity of what culturally defines "good" as opposed to what is considered to be "evil." No additional sources cited.

Blindness in Carver's "Cathedral"
[ send me this paper ]
An eight page paper looking at this short story by Raymond Carver in terms of the symbolic meaning of blindness. The paper shows that there are more ways of being blind than simply the lack of visual acuity. One can be blind to other's feelings; one can be blind to the beauty of the world around us; one can be blind to the meaning of one's own life. Bibliography lists five sources.
