Comparing the Influence of the Past in 2 Novels
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay on this topic. There is a tendency in the Western mindset to perceive past, present and future as compartmentalized, that is, as distinctly separate from each other, which is an attitude that emphasizes the ability of the individual to shape the present and determine the future. Whatever one's past might be, American individualism holds that it can either be accepted or rejected by the individual, which overlooks the reality of human development and how behavior, vision, expectations, achievements and dilemmas are connected to one's past. Two authors whose fiction illustrates this point are Cynthia Ozick, in her short story "Levitation," and Myla Goldberg in her novel Bee Season. No additional sources cited.

Comparing The Scarlet Letter and The Minister's Black Veil
[ send me this paper ]
4
pages. When we consider both of the writings by Nathaniel
Hawthorne, The Scarlet Letter and The Minister's Black Veil, we
are seeing Hawthorne manipulating once again the darker side of
mankind, and symbols to represent that dark side. With one
symbol a big red "A" and the other a mysterious black veil, both
of these symbols depict something which brings out the worse in
those around them. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Comparing Uncertain Vision in “Othello” and “Oedipus Rex”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the fact that Uncertain vision serves as a unifying theme in both Sophocles’ “Oedipus Rex” and Shakespeare’s “Othello” but there is a difference in how each of the authors present their characters’ overall vision and the direction of that vision. What they perceive or understand is not necessarily what they are seeing. Therefore, interpretation serves as the primary component that makes the difference in how the final outcomes are achieved but the end result is still disastrous. Both men lose everything. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
