Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado”: The Underlying Current of Emotion
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page investigation into Poe’s use of emotion in this macabre story of horror. Contends that Poe’s utilization of emotion is two faceted, consisting of a deep undercurrent of masked emotion punctuated only periodically with the raw unleashed acknowledgment of emotion. Emphasizes that Poe uses this more subtle approach to emotion to balance his macabre work but reveals as well that this emotion is deeply tied to Poe’s inner emotions as well. Edgar, Catherine And Heathcliff: Analyzing Identity Through Social And Cultural Influences
[ send me this paper ]
12 pages in length. Although written over one hundred years ago, Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights" captures the anguish and troubled times both men and women met head-on when confronted with the social and cultural dilemmas. The paradox here is that although the Catherine, Heathcliff and Edgar were of a different social status altogether, the experiences they were forced to deal with as individuals were not at all dissimilar from one another. Even though society prides itself on the “you’ve come a long way, baby” way of thinking, have social and cultural discrimination in fact come that far? By analyzing the identity of these three fictional characters, the writer discusses the social and cultural influences that are imposed upon them at Thrushcross Grange and Wuthering Heights, as well as how these influences serve to construct their entire identity. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
This is a 4 page paper discussing Edith Wharton’s short story “Roman Fever” including several elements of fiction which are used such as plot, characters, language, setting, theme, points of view and imagery among others. American writer Edith Wharton (1862-1937) was born into a wealthy New York family and throughout her career spent a great deal of time traveling and living in Europe. While the short story “Roman Fever” (1936) reveals her love for the beauty of the city of Rome, perhaps more importantly the story reveals the levels of deception which can live within the propriety of the upper classes. Through the analysis of several elements of fiction within the work, readers are able to understand how Wharton manages to maintain formality within the text yet still offer readers an increasingly interesting story. Bibliography lists 1 source.
