[ send me this paper ]
This is a 6 page paper discussing elements of satire and irony in “Los Vendidos” by Luis Valdez. The play “Los Vendidos” by Luis Valdez uses a great many elements of satire and irony to show the stereotypes of Mexican Americans which have been created and are expected within American society. The play includes a Mexican American, Ms. Jimenez, who has denied her heritage and pretends she is ignorant to the Chicano ways while at the same time is unable to escape her own culture. In addition to the development of satire to expose Ms. Jimenez, Valdez also employs satire and irony to show how the government needs the support of the Mexican Americans but does not return that support and how the Mexican Americans themselves are able to play stereotypes for Americans in an attempt to obtain what they want.
