Female Sexuality in House of Bernarda Alba
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page essay on Federico Garcia Lorca’s play “The House of Bernarda Alba,” which is part of a trilogy in which each play expresses the way that women were “crushed by Spanish customs and social life” during the early twentieth century (Jones and Jones 13). In Bernarda Alba, the cast is virtually all women, as there is only one brief appearance by a male. In this play, Garcia Lorca uses the theme of suppressed sexuality to underscore the corrosive nature of Spanish cultural expectations towards women. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Feminine Voice in Walker’s The Color Purple
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page essay in which the writer argues that finding and defining a feminine voice is the most crucial and central thematic factor in Alice Walker’s The Color Purple. This novel, which is written as letters, that is, in epistolary form, demonstrates how the voice of the protagonist, Celie, changes from that of an abused, traumatized child to the voice of a mature, secure woman. This voice differs dramatically from the patriarchal assumptions of the society of Celie’s era, which is the early twentieth century, as Celie’s perspective slowly evolves away from the paradigms of mainstream culture and she emerges as an independent, spiritually-centered individual. Feminism And Madame de Stael
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. It is quite appropriate to speak of the connection between Madame de Stael and the notion of feminism in nineteenth-century French literature. Indeed, one of the most powerful books on feminist conjecture is that of Corinne, a story Madame de Stael wrote about an aristocratic heroine who is in constant clash with the society around her. This approach to female strength was not a course many writers braved during this time; rather, to put forth the struggles inherent to gender issues was a bold statement about the patriarchal influence of the period. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Feminism in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892)
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing feminism in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s story “The Yellow Wallpaper”. Charlotte Perkins Gilman uses various elements of feminism within her 19th century story “The Yellow Wallpaper”. The main character in the tale remains a nameless narrator who is a woman who is restless, anxious and depressed about her domestic role in society. The characters within the story react in stereotypical manner and send her to “rest” in the hopes that she will once again become happily submissive in her role as wife and mother. Instead, as she is resides in the room with yellow wallpaper, she imagines she sees images of women creeping around behind the wallpaper and in the evening they looked as if they are trapped behind bars from the shadows. The images of women trapped, caged, within rooms, and nameless are all effective elements used by Gilman to present the feminism movement which was beginning to assert itself during the latter half of the 19th century in literature, society and political life.
