Hamlet, Oedipus & Death of a Salesman
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that contrasts and compares these three works. Three of the greatest tragic plays every written are "Oedipus" by Sophocles; "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare; and "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller. While these plays are vastly different, as their subject matter and their playwrights are separated by centuries, they also bear similarities. In each play, sexual relationships play a major role in motivating the action that propels the characters toward their tragic fate. Another factor is that these plays also exhibit similarities in structure, as they all follow the parameters of Aristotelian tragedy, as outlined by that ancient Greek philosopher in his treatise, "The Poetics." Lastly, but perhaps, most importantly, these plays relate aspects of the human condition, which is a factor that makes them timeless, as each new generation finds aspects of their own lives within cathartic dramatizations. Hank Morgan in Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”: His Goals and Values in Comparison with Those of Thomas Jefferson
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper comparing Thomas Jefferson and Hank Morgan’s goals and values. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence and the bill which established religious freedom in the United States. In addition, he believed in the value of education for all and the separation of the Church from the state. Hank Morgan established similar guidelines in his re-creation of American society in 6th century England in Mark Twain’s work “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” published in 1889. In the book, Morgan sets up an education system for all and a freedom of religion which was separate from the education system; ideals consistent with Jefferson’s. Despite their ideals of liberty however, both Jefferson and Morgan also used advanced methods at their disposal to protect their societies.

Hans Christian Andersen
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page essay on Andersen. The fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen were never meant to be read solely by children. The fact that Andersen's style frequently disguises a sophisticated moral message suggests that he also intended these stories to speak to adults. One of Andersen's best-known tales is "The Emperor's New Clothes," which focuses on the superficiality of pretense. A close examination of this story and Andersen's life suggests that "The Emperor's New Clothes" tells the reader something about the way that Andersen perceived himself and his work. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
