Oscar Wilde: Reflection Of Homosexuality In His Works
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. Did Oscar Wilde's homosexual tendencies provide the author with a hidden theme throughout his works? Some have argued that the author's anxieties with regard to his own homosexuality represents a subtle but obvious enough underlying theme. Although the characters in Oscar Wilde's stories are all in heterosexual relationships, critics contend that there exists an undercurrent of homosexual desire between and among the main characters. They cite that in many of his works, exposure of a secret sin or indiscretion and consequent disgrace is central in design, clearly symbolizing the author's penchant toward homosexuality throughout his literary creations. The writer discusses how one only needs to peruse the myriad pages of Wilde's works in order to ascertain the truth: there is no homosexual reference, hidden or otherwise. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Othello/Contrasts in Language, Character & Mood
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that discusses the thesis that Shakespeare's play Othello is, in many ways, a study in contrasts of language, character and mood. Through Shakespeare's expert manipulations of these elements the action of the play becomes understandable and logical whereas, otherwise, the main action would be inexplicable. In other words, Shakespeare pictures a man, who is very much in love with his wife, succumbing to innuendo, gossip and circumstantial evidence to the point that he looses all sense of perspective and murders the woman he loves. It is an improbable plot, at best, but Shakespeare makes it believable and tragic through the juxtaposition of contrasts in these three elements. No additional sources cited.

Our Guy's : A Story of Power and Manipulation;
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page paper looks at Bernard Lefkowitz's well researched true story of rape in a small town where athletic ability is more important than anything else. The way in which power was used to manipulated the girls and sex roles were developed can be seen as the root cause of the rape, with the behaviour of the perpetrators only being a symptom of the social problem. The paper examines the 'jock culture' that existed at the time, and the attitude of the community after the rape became public knowledge. The book is a sad condemnation on the state of the community in Glen Ridge in 1989 and the years leading up to it. The MLA style bibliography cites 1 source.
