Sandra Cisneros and “Woman Hollering Creek”
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing Sandra Cisneros and her short story “Woman Hollering Creek”. Includes an outline. Through the character of Cleofilas, Sandra Cisneros is able to exemplify many of the feminist and cultural issues which she has seen reflected in her own life. Writing from her own experiences, Cisneros would understand how Mexican women with traditional values may believe that they have no other options available to them other than to stay within an unhappy marriage. Cleofilas is able to get enough courage to break free but does not feel truly liberated until it is pointed out to her by her friend that women can “holler” for their freedom rather than wail and sob for their own pity. Cisneros would be able to best understand these concepts from her own experiences and seeing the liberal lifestyle which can exist within America yet still having the deep memories of her impoverished Mexican past. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Sandra Cisneros' "The House On Mango Street" - How Esperanza's Childhood Alienation Is The First Stage In Her Reconciliation With Her Cultural Background
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Sandra Cisneros reminds her readers how the truth within a story is that which addresses the inherently complicated and diverse attitudes as they exist within each culturally indoctrinated society. The House on Mango Street, which reflects the very truth of human nature and its often painful acceptance, represents how Esperanza's childhood alienation is the first stage in her reconciliation with her cultural background. By forging relationships with other women in the book who help her see the need to overcome such cultural oppression, while at the same time refusing to cultivate alliances with others who hold absolutely no benefit to her cultural development, Esperanza comes to understand just how important one's identity is in order to realize one's dreams. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Sandra Cisneros/Barbie-Q
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that examines Sandra Cisneros' short narrative "Barbie-Q," which concerns the way that two little girls in the 1960s relate to their Barbie dolls. The narrative format is stream of consciousness, making the reader privy to the thoughts of one of the unnamed little girls. More of a vignette than a full-fledged short story, an examination of this work reveals that Cisneros' narrative is rather like a prose poem in the way that she manipulates symbolism to convey her observations on poverty, infidelity, and stereotypes. No additional sources cited.
