Ring Lardner's 'The Haircut'
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. The question is not one of whether Paul Dickson actually committed the premeditate murder of Jim Kendall, but rather if he is fully responsible for the act of passion that he is truly guilty of committing. Certainly, the purported accident is not one of happenstance, because it is no secret how much Paul -- and most of the other townspeople -- despise Jim because of the heartless and cruel jokes he plays on his unwitting victims. But when Julie Gregg -- Paul's unrequited love interest -- becomes victim of a particularly unmerciful prank, it is likely too much for the otherwise mild mannered young man to bear. The writer discusses the reasons why the murder was, in fact, premeditated, and suggests that the entire town is guilty of the crime, as well. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Even after he stopped touring with the teams, all based in the Michigan and Chicago areas, Lardner continued to write about the intimate details and distinct colloquial language used by the players in the professional leagues. The writer discusses the symbolism and probably messages each author was giving in their respective tales. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Rivera & Sanders/Tales of Growing Up
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay that contrasts and compares Edward Rivera's "First Communion" and Scott R. Sanders' "Under the Influence." The writer argues that while these two stories are different contextually, they are similar in the way that both stories speak eloquently of the way that children internalize their surroundings, taking on responsibility for the emotional life of their families, relating problems to their own behavior. No additional sources cited.
