Barker investigates the lost voices of those who were traumatised by shell shock in the First World War, and uses a combination of empirical and imaginative resources in order to reconstruct the subjective histories of those who were silenced in this way; she reconstructs these lost accounts of the suffering and horrors of the Great War through the interpolation of fact and fiction, thus providing an insight into the experiences of those whose accounts are not factually documented in the same way as objective historical data.
