Review of “Retiree Health Insurance: Recent Trends and Tomorrow's Prospects”
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper critiquing the report of a study conducted to determine the degree to which current retirees have access to employer-paid healthcare benefits. One of the most persistent and troublesome issue facing policymakers and legislators today is that of managing Medicare and ensuring that the nation’s elderly population has sufficient access to healthcare. The Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) has made changes in facility reimbursement procedures intended to make Medicare function more efficient, but of course the realized effect has been to further complicate the entire process without providing any real benefit to those needing healthcare services. The paper finds the study to be well-designed and well-executed, and makes recommendations for future research. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Review of "It Wasn't Working: Women's Experiences with Short-Term Breastfeeding"
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page review of this article. As a high quality
qualitative study, this one does not pass any of the necessary tests. It does reveal some
attitudes and experiences that can be important factors in new mothers' decisions to stop
breastfeeding their babies, but it at best can only provide a general indication. Any real
conclusions or valid support obtained through research are not found in this study. It can
be useful for informing opinion, but it cannot be described as a valid qualitative
investigation. Bibliography lists 1 source.

Review of "Newly Discovered Molecule is a Clue to the Spread of AIDS"
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing newly discovered information reported in a 2001
issue of The New York Times and its implication for promoting understanding of
AIDS/HIV infection. This discovery is that the HIV virus is able to attack the first line of
defense against invasion, the CD-4 cells responsible for collecting invading particles and
delivering them to the lymph nodes where the first real attack is mounted. This ability of
the HIV virus to replicate while contained in the CD-4 cells effectively turns them into
"Trojan horses" by the time they reach the lymph nodes. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Review of "Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin and the Free Androgen Index Are Related to Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Multiethnic Premenopausal and Perimenopausal Women Enrolled in the Study of Women Across the Nation (SWAN)"
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper critiquing a research article for form and validity. The article can be said to have weaknesses in form in that it does not include a literature review and does not define the terms it uses. It still is a highly useful study that can inform patient care, however, particularly the care of peri- and postmenopausal women at risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Bibliography lists 2 sources.
