A six page paper which looks at the way in which historical events can be interpreted in film, and to what extent these can be depicted accurately given the constraints of the socio-cultural element in which the films are made and the degree to which films with a historical setting can be allotted the same credibility as source material as academic texts. “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” (1957)
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses the 1957 movie “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” directed by Gene Fowler, Jr., produced by Samuel Z. Arkoff, and starring the actor who went on to become “Little Joe,” “Pa Ingalls” and “Jonathon Smith,” Michael Landon. It seems that in 1957, the idea of a teenage boy turning into a monster at the hands of an evil doctor was as far as American imagination could stretch. In a number of ways, the movie was a comedy, a horror film, a teenage angst movie, and even something of a social commentary. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

“Innocence Lost: The Verdict”: A Review of the PBS Film Documenting a Child Sexual Abuse Case in North Carolina
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page overview of the film. The author of this paper relates the major events of the film and compares it to the HBO docudrama “The McMartin Trial”. In each film the subject is the alleged sexual abuse of children. In “Innocence Lost” the accused, Robert Kelly is found guilty despite the existence of practically no hard evidence. In “The McMartin Trial” the members of the McMartin family are absolved of guilt. This paper emphasizes the relative worth of the documentary verses the docudrama format and concludes that while Kelly serves his consecutive life sentences in jail, the McMartin’s serve theirs in an environment in which they will never be able to fully escape societal suspicion and disdain despite their proclaimed innocence. No sources are listed.

“Jailhouse Rock” and Elvis Presley
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses Elvis Presley’s 1957 movie “Jailhouse Rock.” It should be noted that his movies were not all bad. “Viva Las Vegas” (1964) and “Jailhouse Rock” (1957) are two that showcase Presley at his musical best. While the movie, Elvis’ third of 33, is discussed so are the political and cultural aspects of the backdrop of the 1950s. Elvis, like him or not, was a major entertainment phenomenon and, in fact, still is. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
