Transvestites In "Psycho" & "Silence Of The Lambs"
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page paper in which the writer attempts to validate a thesis concerning social controversy over the use of transvestites in popular film. For the most part, the concern here is that the media raised very little objection decades ago when Norman Bates dressed as his dead mother but yet in the supposedly more "open-minded" 1990's, the film "Silence of The Lambs" fell under marked criticism simply because of how it portrayed transvestites. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Troy in the Iliad & in Film
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page essay/research paper that discusses the differences between Homer's Iliad and the recent film adaptation Troy. The writer argues that the film fails to convey the essence of the ancient Greek worldview. While Homer's poem conveys a world that is distinctly alien from the Judeo-Christian perspective of the Western world roughly 3,000 years later, the film features characters that could easily fit into the modern world. In so doing, despite the jaw-dropping special effects, the movie loses a sense of history, which Homer's epic story most decidedly has. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Truman Capote's "Breakfast At Tiffany's" And Billy Wilder's "Sunset Boulevard": Women, Film And Feminism
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. When assessing the impact that film has had upon the women's movement, it is not difficult to name at least a dozen examples off the top of one's head; indeed, the power of women is the primary focus of myriad films. Two in particular – Truman Capote's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and Billy Wilder's "Sunset Boulevard" – address several elements of the women's movement within their somewhat related themes. Upon researching the historical backgrounds of the films, reading reviews and other writings pertaining
to them, one can readily surmise that there are many facets to being a woman, some that are quite blatant, many more that are both subtle and fundamental at the same time. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Two Examples of Cross-Cultural Exposure in Relation to Multicultural Awareness, Self-Identity and Stereotypes
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing cross-cultural awareness through interviews and cinema. A review of an interview with South African Mark Mathabane and a review of the Spanish film “Talk to Her” by Pedro Almodovar allow readers to appreciate cross-cultural aspects which also help to broaden and define a person’s self-identity and approach to individuals of other cultural groups. Mathabane describes his perceptions of the similarities and differences between racial relations in South Africa and the U.S. which provides insight for readers in their own assessment of individuals from other cultural groups. Almodovar’s film, on the other hand, provides an inside glimpse into contemporary Spanish life and how some traditional stereotypes are maintained while others have been replaced through modern life.
Bibliography lists 2 sources.
