The Hajj
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 3 page paper discussing the Muslim pilgrimage, the Hajj from a religious and modern perspective. The Hajj (Al-Hajj) is an obligatory pilgrimage for Muslims to Makkah (Mecca) in Saudi Arabia during the month of Hajj, Dhul Hijjah. Hajj is the Fifth Pillar of Islam and is therefore a requirement of all Muslims who are capable of making the journey. The Umrah is an optional lesser pilgrimage which can be performed any time during the year for those who are not able to perform the Hajj. Al-Hajj takes place over five days from the 8th to the 13th days of Dhul Hijjah. The term “Hajj” literally means “a resolve” such as “to resolve to some magnificent duty” and it is considered as “the realization of Prophet Abraham’s Prayer”. The commitment to the Hajj is not an easy one as pilgrims must be physically, mentally and financially be able to make the journey and complete the five days of strict rituals. Despite the complexity of the Hajj, over 2 million Muslims make the pilgrimage each year and are supported by the citizens of Mecca and the country of Saudi Arabia which continues to update the city to accommodate more pilgrims.

After Augustine’s conversion to Christianity he quickly became one of the greatest scholars of scripture of all time. Even more importantly, he would wield the power of his knowledge against the teachings of the cult of the Manichees and devote considerable attention as well to his investigations of original sin and other teachings.
