Christian Exclusivism and a Pluralist Society
[ send me this paper ]
This 10 page
report discusses pluralism, exclusivism, Christian exclusivism,
and inclusivism. The basic premises of each is outline and the
conflicts that are inherent between them is discussed. For
example, religious pluralism is viewed differently from
perspectives of exclusivism, tolerance, and interdependence,
while cultural pluralism is seen from more of a secular focus on
the relationships between peoples and their differing cultures
rather than the relationship between people and their faith.
Religious traditions that claim that their truths are the
exclusive truth see pluralism as something to be opposed, because
“competing” religions are considered to be false. Bibliography
lists 14 sources.

Cicero, John Stuart Mill And Martin Luther King, Jr: Liberty, Justice And Freedom
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Theorists have long philosophized about the tenets of liberty, justice and freedom, with many espousing their application to every class, race and gender. That society continues to struggle with providing liberty, justice and freedom across the board, as opposed to segregating it between rich/poor, higher class/lower class, black/white, speaks to the blatant oversight man has made with regard to equitable civilization. Cicero, John Stuart Mill and Martin Luther King, Jr. represent both sides of this perpetual quest for social equity, with Cicero and King speaking for all the people and Mill supporting the greater good. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Cicero/On Obligation
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page essay that summarizes the major points from Cicero's treatise on obligations. The writer argues that this brilliant philosopher's observations on what constitutes honorable and useful behavior remains applicable as a useful guide to the modern reader. Cicero divided his text into three books. The first book deals with his thoughts on honorable acts, the second on useful and the third addresses conflict between honorable acts and seemingly useful acts. In his introduction to his translation of On Obligation, P.G. Walsh points out that Cicero insisted that that conflict only existed between honorable acts and "apparently" useful acts, as "Cicero argues throughout that the intrinsically useful is identical with the honorable" (xxiii). This examination of On Obligation summarizes Cicero's major points in this text before providing discussion. No additional sources cited.
