Preservation of Species: A Philosophical Argument Including The Principle of Charity, Species Distinction and Modern Day Considerations
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing the idea of preservation of other species in the modern world. As the modern world population continues to grow to over 5 billion, the arguments of the preservation of other species shifts from the preservation of other species to the preservation of our own. At what point do humans begin to sacrifice their lifestyle, their welfares and their very lives in order to preserve other species? Traditionally, the moral and ethical arguments in regards to the preservation of other species focused on philosophical and religious discussions using the virtues of man including the strongest virtue of all; that of charity. This being said, Darwin’s evolutionary theory based on the “survival of the fittest” paved the way for man’s own preservation of his own species. While many argued whether or not distinctions between species should be clear cut in regards to their rights, modern day moral policies are based on man’s preservation and they include the traditional arguments based on religion and philosophy but also include the realities of the world today based on economic, medical and environmental concerns which when administered to the overall survival of the human race may mean the sacrifice of other species in the process of man’s own survival.

Presidential Candidates and Philosophical Tradition
[ send me this paper ]
This
excellent 5 page paper discusses the fact that philosophy is an
academic arena which most view as having little to do with the
real world. In viewing the presidential hopefuls, however, and
studying their party platforms, we can see how some of their
policies and views reflect statements and ideals set by such
philosophers as Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques
Rousseau. Describes how the beliefs and visions by each of the
presidential candidates presented are inherently linked in some
way to some or all of these philosophers.

Primary Philosophies of Kant and Mill
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing Kant's categorical imperative and Mill's utilitarianism. Of all the philosophies that have come down to us from previous centuries, those of Kant and Mill may be the most consistently applicable to the present day. Both allow for decision making based on facts and conditions and are not constrained by social mores that change with time. Thus they remain relevant for all time and remain greatly useful even today. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Principles
[ send me this paper ]
Deciding whether or not principles are based on choice or whether
they are 'inherited' seems to be a matter of deciding whether it is the social
controls that determine the principles or whether the individual is in control
of their own development. This 5 page paper explores the beliefs of
Aristotle, Marx, Freud and Sartre in an effort to answer the question: "do we
choose our principles or are they handed down to us". Bibliography lists 5

Principles for Life/Apology and Crito
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page essay that discusses these two dialogues. Plato maintains in his various dialogues that the exemplary principles expounded upon by Socrates are crucial to living a good life. Plato portrays Socrates; even in when facing his own death, as serene, a man at peace with himself and immune to the vicissitudes of life. Within his dialogues, Plato intimates that Socrates achieved this equitable perspective on life by adhering scrupulously to his personal principles. This examination of principles drawn from Plato's "Apology" and "Crito" demonstrates support for his contention that by following the dictums of Socrates an individual can craft a life that is both satisfying and happy. No additional sources cited.
