Styles of Syllogistic Decision-Making and Elements of a Moral Argument
[ send me this paper ]
This 6 page report discusses issues associated with moral and syllogistic decision making based on specific resources. The premise of the report is that it is valuable to understand what constitutes the most basic principles of decision making and how that then relates to the elements of a moral argument. Argumentation may exist in terms of a variety of syllogistic frameworks that then lead to a greater ability to understand the underlying principles of a debate and provide the best possible basis for making a moral decision. Consequentialist and nonconsequentialist thinking and thinkers are also briefly discussed. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Substance And Causality: Aristotelian Theories More Relevant Than Platonic Conjecture
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Examining the relevant worthiness of Aristotelian and Platonic philosophy requires one to assess the fundamental values of both approaches. Indeed, Aristotle may have been Plato's most illustrious pupil, however, he did not share his instructor's view of substance and causality. When one compares the two concepts, one finds that Aristotle's concrete, scientific theories are more relevant than Plato's deductive and abstract ideology. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Substance Dualism: Descartes, Spinoza and Berkeley
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Man's timeline of existence has created a number of philosophical debates that - despite repeated attempts to reach a single answer - have served to perpetuate debate throughout the centuries. One of the most hotly challenged concepts that continues even today is that of substance dualism, the notion of mind/body, mental/physical as two distinct and separate entities in the universe. However, these substance dualists, who perceive their physical beings as external housing for their minds, are not without their critics. As such, a significant component of comparing and contrasting Cartesian mind/body interactionism and Spinoza's monism is incorporating some of the most notable names associated with the entire subject matter, not the least of which is George Berkeley. Without the fundamental concepts offered by other philosophers, Cartesian and Spinoza's contributions would have little upon which to reflect. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Suffering Evolves From Knowledge - From What We Mistakenly Think We Know
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. Mankind's perceived knowledge resides at the foundation of human suffering. The extent to which this is true can be experienced in everyday life as people move from one psychological plane to another without cause to stop and consider how and why they are even here and what might be expected of them on a grander, more esoteric scale. Inherent to man's self-seeking journey is that which becomes distorted, a quest for knowledge that no longer reflects the truth but rather exemplifies how people latch on to what it is they mistakenly think they know. The ultimate consequence of such shortsightedness results in tremendous suffering that humanity has no idea how to abate, much less liberate altogether. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Summary and Analysis of “The Laws” by Plato
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 10 page paper summarizing and analyzing Plato’s “The Laws” on a chapter by chapter basis. Philosopher and educator Plato (427-347 B.C.E.) wrote extensively in general philosophy which he believed was the basis for the theory of education and political thought. Plato was greatly influenced by the philosophies of Socrates and in addition was critical about Athenian public life “which he presented as dominated by the rhetorical and poetical uses of language in the formation of policies and attitudes”. “The Laws” (360 B.C.E.) was Plato’s last and most extensive work and it reaffirms many of his arguments from previous works in regards to the practical politics of running a Republic. The central speaker is an “Athenian stranger” who gives “advice on the constitution of a proposed new city”. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
