To the contrary, Epicurus espoused a life of choice that is derived from one's fearlessness of death and the gods, as well as keeping desires in check; moreover, this pursuit of pleasure is not realized by virtue of some whim of fate but rather is a compilation of the decisions one makes in relation to one's life.
