Federalism in Regards to the Watershed Issues in the United States
[ send me this paper ]
This is a 5 page paper discussing federalism in regards to watershed and water system deterioration in the U.S. Geoffrey O’Gara’s book “What You See in Clear Water: Life on the Wind River Reservation” touches on a local watershed issue which has seen the involvement of local, state and federal authorities and agencies which has not led to the betterment of the water system. The Native Americans in Wyoming near the Wind River want to reclaim the watershed rights in order to reclaim and revitalize the water system. The state however wants to maintain control of the water system. This is one example of state and federal mismanagement across the United States which has seen a massive depletion in the fauna in the water systems and almost half of the rivers and lakes in the country considered threatened by the Environmental Protection Agency. Federalism has retained control over the water system mainly because of the factors which have endangered the systems such as agriculture, industry, grazing and urbanization are all considered “better” for the economy of the nation. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page outline for a presentation discussing the performance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the Gulf coast region. FEMA was able to send more evacuees to the Superdome but could not send supplies; it totally ignored the Convention Center that began its life as a shelter with no supplies at all. Flat Tax
[ send me this paper ]
A 7 page paper discussing the flat tax proposal for replacing the current tax code. Former congressman Dick Armey (R-Texas) was and likely remains the leading proponent of abandoning the current tax system in favor of a flat tax on income. Armey's tax return would require the use of a 10-line postcard only; everyone would pay a flat tax rate of 17 percent, and a family of four with a $36,000 income would pay nothing at all. This is a scenario far removed from the current system, of course. Those who can least afford to pay taxes manage to pay a greater proportional share after those with greater means take advantage of the deductions and exclusions not available to lower-income groups. The purpose here is to investigate the flat tax. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
