Impacts to American Economy as a Result of the Iraqi War
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page overview of the two views regarding the economic impact our current war with Iraq will have on the American economy. Those who support the war often contend that it will positively impact the economy much like World War II was successful in bringing us out of the Great Depression. Those who contest the war contend that it will have a disastrous impact on our economy. The author of this paper points out the relative percentage of the gross domestic product (GDP) for this current war is impressively less than that for previous wars such as World War II, Vietnam and even the Persian Gulf War. Consequently the economic impact will be quite minimal. We are unlikely to either profit or suffer greatly as a result of our war with Iraq. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Imperialistic Activity in the 19th Century
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages. This paper is an analysis of imperialistic activity during the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The imminence of world war had a significant impact upon Europe's transition to democracy before 1914. With the implication of being an inter-imperialist conflict among capitalist leaders, its threatening presence promised to inflict such detrimental impact that it would endanger the very presence of capitalism as it existed in Europe during that period. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

In Favor of Freer Trade
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing the statement that the benefits from freer world trade, and specifically the North American Free Trade Agreement, have been poorly or unequally distributed. The paper highlights the benefits that Singapore has been able to achieve over 40 years, the same length of time that the US has maintained the trade embargo against Cuba. The paper also discusses the continued broken promises of the US to Chile, and Chile’s ability to prosper in spite of continuing to be excluded from NAFTA. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

In Favor Of The Aristide Government
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. What may have appeared to be a surprise rebellion enacted upon Aristide's Haiti in the beginning of 2004 has come to be better known as an American-backed coup to oust the Haitian president who perpetually rubbed the United States the wrong way. Aristide's "leftist rhetoric" (Kurlantzick, 2004) did not sit well with President Bush, and his less than humane tactics where violence was concerned did not win him support of his own people; however, Aristide's popularity appeared to be relatively stable if one was to believe the polls. This, therefore, is why the unexpected revolt took so many by surprise and initially did not evoke any indication of American involvement: It was automatically presumed that Haitians had tired of Aristide's devices and decided to take things in their own hands. It was not until the connection was made between demonstration leaders and the International Republican Institute (IRI) that the puzzle pieces began falling into place. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
