Mimetic Theory and “Troilus and Cressida”
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses Shakespeare’s “Troilus and Cressida” in terms of mimetic theory. It should be understood that 'mimetic' means to imitate. But in terms of artistic expression . . . to imitate what? Ultimately, it is the notion of imitation within the context of an artistic reproduction, such as poetry, painting, literature, and/or drama. The mimetic theory is applicable during a study of Troilus and Cressida since the play presents a situation in which the tension between the ideal and the actual state of facts, between what could have been and what became truth, is turned on its proverbial end to what amounts to an ironic comedy or a comedic irony, regardless of its painful measure of bitterness. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Bibliography lists 5 sources.

[ send me this paper ]
In 5 pages, the author discusses Miranda of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" and Ophelia of Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark." At first glance, both Miranda from Shakespeare's "The Tempest," and Ophelia from " The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark" appear to be peripheral and unsophisticated characters in plays that center on the plots and schemes of other characters. But closer evaluation shows that they both may in fact be read as central to the plays' plot and themes Bibliography lists 5 sources.
