Shakespeare's 'Winter's Tale' / Symbolism
[ send me this paper ]
In 5 pages the author discusses the symbolism present in "The Winter's Tale" by William Shakespeare. The play is filled with symbolism from its very title "The Winter's Tale" to the end. The title symbolizes the affiliation of the play with storytelling. In fact, Mamillius, who is the son to Leontes, the King of Sicilia, advises his mother, Hermione, in the second act that "a sad tale's best for winter" (2.1.27). This symbolic omen predicts what will come. No additional sources cited.

Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream"
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Shakespeare is just as manipulative in his comedic style as other playwrights are in their tragedies; however, the primary difference between the two is that Shakespeare presents such seemingly tragic events as being overblown and ridiculous, which encourages the audience to laugh both at and with the plot. As well, Shakespearean drama is often seen as quiet and pastoral; there is however, another side of his work: dealing with conflict between human beings. These collective elements of Shakespearean drama are particularly evident in A Midsummer Night's Dream, where presentation of the Athenian court in Act I and the world of the fairies in Act II clearly illustrates the extent to which Shakespeare addresses social, historical, cultural content. Shakespeare's "Hamlet" on Stage and in Film
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses Shakespeare's "Hamlet" and the statement made by Bert O. States that analogous techniques are at work in the art of the film director, for "Shakespearean cinematography makes use of the same device (as employed by film directors) for advancing character ambiguity by framing the character against the rhetorical sky of the play's world." Issues of location, whether expressionistic (as in Olivier's stage portrayal) or realistic (as in director Franco Zeffirelli's film version). Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Shakespeare's "Hamlet": Imagery
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. The entire reason that literature exists is to present an image through the written word. Thus, imagery is a critical element to literary verse. Words represent virtually everything in a play, including inanimate objects, concepts, emotions, activity, mental conditions and senses. Truly, one takes in such a
production with all of one's perception: visual; olfactory; tactile; auditory; gustatory; abstract; and kinesthetic; therefore, it would be prudent to surmise that the imagery in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is effectively represented by a ghostly apparition symbolizing superstition and fear of the unknown. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night": Disguises
[ send me this paper ]
7 pages in length. No one is without a social face; in fact, people often maintain many social faces depending upon the situation or the ultimate objective. When assessing Viola's emotional and mental disguise in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, the student will want to address such elements as social dictate, gender oppression and the aspect of patriarchal control as they relate to the inherent association to social façade. Transcending this concept to contemporary times, the student will want to discuss the need for social acceptance to the point of donning a politically correct front in order to achieve success in certain social circles. Bibliography lists 5 sources.
