Karl Marx’s Concept of Human Nature, Applied to Modern America,
and According to Erich Fromm
[ send me this paper ]
This 7 page report discusses how
psychoanalyst Erich Fromm (1900-1980) presented the philosophy
and thinking of Karl Marx. Fromm was convinced that Marx was
terribly misunderstood, especially by the communists of the
former Soviet Union who attempted to co-opt his thinking. As
Fromm explains Marx’s concept of socialism, the most important
fact is that he interpreted Marx to mean that “socialism is not a
society of regimented, automatized individuals, regardless of
whether there is equality of income or not, and regardless of
whether they are well fed and well clad. It is not a society in
which the individual is subordinated to the state, to the
machine, to the bureaucracy.” Bibliography lists 8 sources.

Kozol's Amazing Grace
[ send me this paper ]
Poverty Culture: In Amazing Grace (1995),
Jonathan Kozol writes concerning the lives of people - the people of the
South Bronx and how they live as renegades to a society that considers
them 'unclean'. This 5 page paper argues that the isolation that
results within a community from being locked behind their own defenses
is a form of segregation that can only encourage violence, desperation
and a continuance of the cycle of poverty. Bibliography lists 8
sources.

Kubler-Ross' Death: The Final Stage of Growth
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. America, says Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, is a death-denying society. We all know death is going to happen to us, but we act as if it's not. Even when we hear of the death of an elderly acquaintance, we ask what was wrong with him -- as though death were somehow a rare or abnormal condition caused by something he did. This thoughtful essay and review of Kubler's well-known book argues that the American method of handling the subject of death is injurious to both the dying and their survivors. The primary source is quoted and full citation is provided.
