Individuals mandated to outpatient treatment for drugs and alcohol feel powerless in what choices they believe they have to better their lives; as such, they become all the more vulnerable to being influenced in the wrong direction until interventionist approaches incorporate the decision-making properties of conflict theory as a practical application of empowerment.
