Educational Achievement in Britain According to Ethnicity, Gender and Social Class
[ send me this paper ]
A 12 page paper discussing gaps in educational achievement in Britain from a sociological perspective. Researchers appear to be identifying concepts that should be important in arriving at resolution, even though it appears that they have not yet found workable solutions that fit all situations. It has been known for years that more highly educated parents typically are more involved in their children’s education and encourage them to achieve. The stereotype of Asian commitment to education appears to be supported by achievement rates in Asian populations. Researching these groups to learn their “secrets” that could be applied to other groups appears to be a reasonable approach to bridging social, gender and ethnicity gaps in educational achievement. Bibliography lists 9 sources.

Educational Research
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing graphical representation of collected data as part of the descriptive analysis of the research effort. The judicious use of graphical elements in the report and assessment of a research effort can add not only visual appeal to the work, but also become a part of the descriptive analysis of the research. As has been demonstrated here, the type of graphical representation chosen has the ability to affect the depth of detail provided in the analysis of the research. Includes a table and 2 charts. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Ehrenreich & Schulman/The Working Poor
[ send me this paper ]
A 3 page essay that discusses excerpts from Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed and Beth Shulman's The Betrayal of Work, which the writer argues make similar and very persuasive arguments. Both of these authors present a picture of the working poor that contrasts sharply with the image of these workers in American contemporary culture. Examination of Ehrenreich's principal thesis shows that it is substantiated and supported by the facts listed by Shulman. Both authors indite the conception of the working poor as not only a lie, but a flagrant injustice that should be addressed. No bibliography is provided.
