Social Norms
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. Society is bound by a set of rules – some written, some spoken, others explicitly followed by virtue of inherent knowledge but all universally understood within the confines of that particular culture – which serve to govern civilized behavior. The deviant behavior of breaking a social norm constitutes stepping over of very specific boundaries that prove to delineate a mandated proximity and/or behavior man has imposed upon his own species. To demonstrate just how inextricable social norms are to the fundamental components of human existence, one only has to stand too close while conversing to see the immediate discomfort people feel when you have violated their personal space. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

Social Problems Amongst The Homeless
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Homelessness is not a disease that afflicts only a certain segment of the population. No different than the next person, those who have no permanent address or source of income in the Midwest still have certain shared basic needs that have great difficulty being met when they are perpetually represented as inferior and unworthy of such needs. Human nature is defined by myriad elements, not the least of which is the social need to categorize people into distinct groupings based upon certain criteria. These innate classifications can represent significant social power, as in the case of beauty, wealth and status, or they can symbolize aspects of society that people would just as soon forget, such as the homeless. For this population to become able to fully function within a society that expects perfection from those who least possess it, the presence of myriad internal and external social considerations reflects the protective shield against this happening. Bibliography lists 7 sources.

Social Problems and Computers
[ send me this paper ]
This 5 page report discusses the
importance of computers and the undeniable fact that, as a tool,
computers transformed virtually every aspect of modern life.
However, it must also be noted that the “information revolution”
and computers also serve as the basis for a number of significant
social problems. Since the advent of information technology and
electronic data transfer, virtually all aspects of commerce,
business, government, even education have transformed to take
full advantage of the immediacy of information available.
However, as the world enters the 21st century, it is clear that
information technology and data transfer can and will be enhanced
even further . . . but at what cost? Economic and educational
inequity are creating an ever-widening gap between the proverbial
“haves” and “have-nots.” Bibliography lists 8 sources.
