Expressivism in Marxist Theories
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. Marxist
theories regarding expressivism overflow into social and
political theory and philosophy. While expressivism can be
considered a freedom that we can all choose to enjoy, that
expressivism can overrun its boundaries and turn into something
negative, as though it had a life of its own. Bibliography lists

FDR's "Splendid Deception" and its Motivations
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page paper
discussing FDR's efforts in hiding his paralysis from the American public in relation to
Charles Smith's views of public and private behavior argued in Critique of Sociological
Reasoning. Smith holds that all human behavior, including that resulting from the experience
of disability, can be categorized into three levels. The experience of Franklin D. Roosevelt is
used here to illustrate those levels and then proclaim that while FDR operated from all three
levels, it was Level 3, the most altruistic, that could most frequently describe his behavior as
related to his disability. Bibliography lists 4 sources.

Esping (2003) writes that firstborns are overrepresented as Nobel Prize winners and have often tested highest in all achievement scores. Most recent studies show correlations between better health and firstborns....

Free Rider And Rational Choice Theory
[ send me this paper ]
3 pages in length. Because the human being is essentially egotistical in composition, it is not surprising to learn how many people will - when engaged within a group that has common interests and/or a common goal - strive to reach that common denominator only so far as it also fulfills the individual's personal agenda. The free rider problem, which revolves around this mentality, illustrates the manner by which some people utilize the exponential power of a group to achieve specific goals the individual could not reach by himself. This is a troublesome mindset for groups as a whole because it gives the group a false sense of wholeness when striving for a particular objective, with the free rider becoming more of an albatross than an active participant unless coercion is a motivating component. Freud and Human Nature.
[ send me this paper ]
(5 pp) according to Freud (1930) human nature is
"the struggle between Eros and Death, between the
instinct of life and the instinct of destruction,
as it works itself out in the human species. This
struggle is what all life essentially consists of,
and the evolution of civilization may therefore be
described as the struggle for life of the human
species. He adds that the sense of guilt is the most
important problem in the development of
civilization’ and that ‘the price we pay for our
advance in civilization is a loss of happiness
through the heightening of the sense of guilt’
Personal responses to this statement are given.
