The Effects of Yield Management on the Fortunes of the U.S. Airline Industry
[ send me this paper ]
A 9 page paper on the positive financial effects that yield management pricing has had on the major airlines of the U.S., exhibited by a $2.5 billion industry-wide profit after posting losses of over $13 billion over the previous four years combined. With the major airlines' increased financial health, they are better able to compete not only with each other, but against the newer, smaller airlines that would like to create a secondary market in areas not well-served by the major carriers. The major airlines, however, are using all their new-found financial might to drive the smaller ones out of their markets and then follow with increased fares when the threat of competition is gone. The Firing Of Incumbent Airport Security Screeners
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages in length. That every single aspect of airport security has changed significantly since 911 is an understatement of grand proportions. Indeed, the extent to which the aviation industry has been modified – from screening procedures to outfitting airplanes with marshals to inspecting the food placed onboard to feed passengers – is indicative of a far more prudent and methodical approach to airport safety. Among these changes, however, has been a trend to remove incumbent security screeners in lieu of those who are more highly trained – as well as American citizens – to detect the smallest nuance of suspicion. This move toward outfitting an entirely new security workforce, according to critics, is both unfair and unnecessary; proponents contend, however, that the unequivocal demand for more stringent safety measures at America's airports requires a better qualified individual – mentally, physically and culturally – to carry out the newly implemented procedures. Bibliography lists 7 sources.
