Energy Deregulation in New York and California
[ send me this paper ]
11 pages in
length. When California Legislators decided to institute
electric industry restructuring in 1996, it was believed by many
that the deregulated industry would offer consumers a way to make
better choices and to have lower rates for their electrical and
utility services. The decision to deregulate is under fire in
California. That state has seen not only increasing rates but
also blackouts which have caused Governor Gray Davis to step in
and urge the California Public Utilities Commission to adjust its
rates. This chaos in California is being closely watched by
other states that are also experimenting with the deregulation of
the electric industry. The focus in this paper is on the states
of New York and California and the impact of energy deregulation.
Bibliography lists 11 sources.

Environmental Factors Impacting Textile Function and Longevity
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page discussion of textiles and the environmental factors which affect them. Textiles are defined and distinguished as either industrial or of general use. The author contends that textile products are subject to a number of environmental hazards. These potential hazards sometimes necessitate climate control in respect to lighting, temperature and humidity. Textiles are also impacted by such factors as insects and rodents, fire and smoke, and even time itself. As though these considerations weren’t enough, textiles can also be adversely impacted by mechanical and chemical factors. Each of these factors are discussed alongside possible measures to control them. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Ethics in Structural Engineering

the past few years, and engineers face more questions of ethics of choice than ever before.

philosophies of Kant (the categorical imperative) and Mill (the greater good) in providing
a framework for decision making that can contribute to structures of greater integrity and
safety. The paper uses examples from India, China and Japan. Bibliography lists 15
